Investigation of ELISA and PCR for Diagnosis of Infectious Mononucleosis
Background and Aims: Infectious mononucleosis (IM)is the clinical manifestation of primary infection with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Humans are the only known reservoir of EBV. Regarding the problems in diagnosis of the disease, the purpose of this study was to assess Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and Nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) as a diagnostic tool for this disease. Mate...

iii infectious mononucleosis has been the subject of controversy. It is now generally accepted that they belong to the lymphocytic series 3 although an occasional worker4 holds out for their monocytic origin. Recently, Paegle,#{176} usmg the electron microscope, found that most of the cells in the blood of l) ttients with infectious mononucleosis contained organelles similar to those of the cel...
متن کاملNew slide test for infectious mononucleosis.
The rapid and simple slide test for infectious mononucleosis designed by Hoff and Bauer (1965) is designed and compared with a modified sheep-cell slide screening test (Maloney and Malzone, 1949) and the differentenial absorption technique (Davidson, 1937). The claim of Hoff and Bauer that their test is more ;specific' is substantiated. Brief clinical histories illustrate the argument.
متن کاملAn evaluation of the Monosticon rapid slide test diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis.
A new rapid slide test for the detection of infectious mononucleosis heterophile antibody has been compared with the Paul-Bunnell absorption test. Out of 200 sera, 46 were seropositive for infectious mononucleosis by the Paul-Bunnell test and 43 of these were detected by the Monosticon test; the three Monosticon-negative sera were of low titre. There was no problem with false positive reactions...
